Lawrence Bickers is a consultant to Coller IP, a consultancy firm based at The Shard in London. Lawrence has over 40 years of professional experience in the design, execution and management of projects.

He has worked on projects involving Intellectual Property, Intellectual Assets and Intellectual Capital both in the UK and worldwide. He has extensive experience working with large corporations and SME’s internationally on ‘Best Practice’ through the lifecycle of ‘Creation, Capture, Protection and Value Realisation’


Lawrence holds a BSc Honours degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Bangor, and MSc in Telecommunications from the University of Essex. He is a member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology and a former visiting Professor at Manchester Metropolitan University and member of the Industrial Advisory Board at Bangor University. He has 5 patents and has published over 50 scientific papers.

Sectors & Specialisms

Lawrence has expertise in the full lifecycle of intellectual assets from creation, capture, protection and value realisation. Through his engineering background he can tackle a wide range of projects. His focus is creating value for investments in intangible assets and a strong commercial return for legal rights. Lawrence previously worked for British Telecom in R&D where he was involved in pioneering work on the first transatlantic optical cables. He then developed equipment for the first fibre to the home trails in the UK and the first intercity optical routes. He was recognised in the Guinness book of records for the longest optical fibre transmission of its time across the North Sea. He was later responsible for capital investment in the UK telecom network and then moved to head up a team to generate revenues from patent assets. He joined IP Value as European VP in 2003 and then joined Coller Capital in 2007 as an investor in patent assets. He joined Coller IP in 2012 to enhance the brokering business. He later became Managing Director and Chairman of Coller IP Lawrence is a regular lecturer on IP Valuation courses and other topics related to IP.
