Following his graduation in1998, Alex started out as an engineer, initially within the shipbuilding industry before moving into the telecoms industry where he joined Vodafone in late 1999. He delivered a number of successful programmes that were critical to the ongoing rollout and expansion of Vodafone’s 2G and 3G networks before moving into a more commercially focussed role, as competitor and market intelligence analyst in 2007, regularly presenting and delivering business-critical insight and intelligence to the C-Suite and influencing key business decisions.
Alex was appointed Global Intellectual Property Rights Manager in 2007 where he was able to combine his commercial and technical background to great effect. With oversight of Vodafone’s global IP portfolio and associated strategy, Alex led the company’s IP team through several periods of business change, influencing senior management and delivering revenue to the business through patent sales and licensing whilst growing the overall size and quality of the IP portfolio. By the end of 2015, Alex had established Vodafone as #6 for UK companies filing at the EPO, developed a global network of educated IP contacts throughout the organisation and overcome a range of challenges such as cultural differences, portfolio management, IP awareness, reward/recognition and budget management, to ensure the successful delivery of a sustainable programme for managing IPR.
In April 2017, Alex joined Coller IP and was appointed Managing Director in July 2017 leading the business through a period of significant change that culminated in the eventual sale of the business to Top Tier intellectual property firm, Mathys & Squire.
